How many times have you seen a shorter haircut on a model or someone else and thought to yourself, "how cool would that look on me?" Next thing you know your in the mirror looking at the new Skrillix haircut asking yourself why. Everyone knows what a pain the whole grow-out phase is. So what can we do to speed the process up? Right?! Never fear here are some great ideas.

Here are some great tricks to help stimulate that scalp and grow those hairs.

Tip #1 - Stimulate the Scalp

First things first, when you wash your hair don't use your nails and aggressively scratch the shampoo into your scalp, that'll only cause tension, stress and inflammation which in turn causes hair loss. While washing your hair gently massage the scalp with the pads of your fingers rather then your fingertips. Remember you only need to gently shampoo the scalp not scrub your ends.

Tip #2 - Conditioning & Moisturized

My key trick is to condition or moisturize the mid-shaft to ends of hair but not directly on the scalp. Now you shouldn't be washing your hair everyday but more like every other day. To much showering will dry the scalp out or cause it to over produce oil. While waiting between showers invest in dry shampoo. You don't have to go buy hair mask and speend huge amounts of money on product, you can turn any conditioner into a mask by letting it sit for 5 min before you wash it out.

Tip #3 - Stop drying hair with bath towel

Yes stop using that bath towel to dry your hair, instead use a non-terry-cloth towel, a hair turban or even a cotton T-shirt. Your hair is at its most fragile state when it fresh from the wash. Avoid breakage buy using towels that wont snag or pull you hair and instead use something that has a smooth surface for the hair to glide over without snagging.

Tip #4 - Products & Tools

I always like using leave in treatments but remember that a little can go a long way. One of my favorite product that i use after a shower to help protect my hair is the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding oil. I use just a drop or to and rub it in my hands and finger it thought mid-shaft to ends with my main focus on the ends.

Using leave in product help protect your hair from natural elements like sun and wind damage. Also keep an eye on the ingredients of the products you put in your hair. Scalp health expert and founder of beauty consultancy Colour Collective, Kerry Yates always recommends to use anti-inflammatory botanical s like Aloe Vera, Fenugreek, or Chamomile.

Take a break from doing damaging things to your hair like Bleaching, coloring, and using hot styling tools. You don't have to swear them off, but rather keep the heat level in the low setting.

Wet Brush - if you haven't gotten one get it today. Sally's has them as well as your local cosmetologist or licensed stylist/barber.

Tip #5 - Protective Hair-styling

Now think about box braids, jumbo cornrows, fishtails, french braids etc. that is a protective hair-styling. The key factor here is remembering to not pull the hair to tight when braiding, and also switch out the braids every few weeks to prevent breakage and more damage. Doing the transition from straight to textured helps with minimizing your daily hair routine and the braiding helps stimulate the scalp promoting growth.
